Just wanted to let you know what your book did for me. Before reading it, I drank forty to sixty ounces of diet soda per day. After reading the part where you challenged the reader to look up what aspartame was made of, I did so, and became angry that the mega corps would be putting that crap into our food source. I never bought another diet soda again after that. I've drank, maybe ten sodas in the last five months, and the weight just keep dropping. I'm now at my lowest weight in sixteen years, and all I really did was quit sodas, and sugary snacks, while making water my drink of choice. There were also some documentaries on Netflix I watched while I was home recovering from a workplace injury, which bolstered my resolve. One was an expose' on the sugar industry called "Sugar Coated", and one was Michael Pollen's "In Defense of Food", which distills the game plan down to two sentences, "Eat food, not too much, mostly plants," and, "Make water your drink of choice." Denise then quit drinking soda around three months ago, and the weight is falling off of her too. It's like someone gave us our forties back, just without teenagers. First I am terrible at spelling! I blame this on being left handed and my creative brain being in charge thus my creative spelling.
This time last year I was taking an antidepressant(2009), Lorazepam for anxiety, an inhaler for asthma ( because Docs were not sure if I really had anxiety or asthma or both so they treated both!) a sleeping pill, (maybe Lunesta), using a CPAP (2016) and my synthroid for under active thyroid(since 2005).
I weighed about 175 and gaining.
In March of 2017 I was sick of it. I stared to tapper myself off the antidepressant, sleeping pill and Lorazepam, by the end of April I was down to just one lorazepam at bedtime. The withdrawals from the antidepressant lasted for months. would come and go as they pleased.
(In about August when I saw my Dr. he wrote me a new antidepressant prescription! I didn't fill it. and I was up to 185! so I took about three weeks worth of Fin Fin? lost 10 lbs quick. but it was difficult to sleep on this stuff not to mention how terrible it was for me but I was desperate. Before taking it I had started exercising regularly, took a 6 week boot camp.....was more careful about what I was eating but nothing was working.
Then September!! Was our first phone call with you! now.......
I am 150 lbs (size 12 was getting snug now an 8 fits great) I never felt hungry...not at all! I never felt like I was on a diet.
I take my synthroid and do use my cpap but not as often and I don't have to wear if for as long. If I go to sleep with out it I feel ok but for now I think I feel better if I wear it for part of the night.
I do plan on reading up on iodine for my thyroid.
No more antidepressant, no more anxiety pills, no more inhalers, no more dangerous diet pills and cut way back on my need for the cpap.
I am so thankful for all of your help, I'm not eating a perfect diet 100% of the time but wow......I love the changes you have helped us make and the new found awareness of how different foods effect each of us differently. I can't thank you enough!
